I'd say there are a lot of rather unintelligent comments made about this logo. But i'd agree that it's not great. It's true that since unveiling the logo everyone knows the olympics are in London. Does knowing where the olympics are being held encourage people to take up sport? I don't think it does, it makes no difference to my sporting aspirations whether it's held in London or on Mars. It's still completely removed from my world - which is where this logo comes into things. I would imagine that the logo is attempting to bring it into youth culture in which case it's what it says to them that matters, my opinion if not important. I don't have any teenagers to ask so I can but guess at what they might think. Yes, it's retro, 80's is back in. Is there any more to it than that? I'm reading it as 80's, graffiti, youth, multi-cultural. This is all good in my opinion but I still don't like the logo, neither do I hate it, I just think it's not that good! If you want it to be hip, youthful, multi-cultural and rebellious then why not create something that looks hip, multi-cultural etc instead of like something that's been designed to reflect those things, basically, it looks fake, they'd have been better off getting a street artist to do it.
